President of Eghoro Community Youths in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Duakpemi Kunu Gift, says nobody or association, has the locus to negotiate for or on behalf of Eghoro Community, as regards pipeline surveillance contract, “because the PIA (Petroleum Industry Act) made it clear on how such engagement should go”.
Fresh Angle International understands that Hon Duakpemi, who reportedly made the declaration, while addressing newsmen, boldly stated that only host communities, have the legal right to discuss with any contractor on pipeline surveillance, in-line with provisions of the PIA.
Whilst asserting that, he hadn’t seen the Itsekiri National Youths Council, INYC negotiate with Chevron Nigeria Limited and ELCREST/NPDC operating in Eghoro land on job/contract slot, the Eghoro Youth President, stated: “As a community, we are capable of taking what rightly belongs to us via the right channel, not through back door.
“Therefore, whoever deals with any group or body such as INYC as regards Eghoro, is acting in nullity. Only the Eghoro Trust Executive and Youth National Body, have the right to negotiate on behalf of Eghoro Community”.
