Authorities of the Bomadi Local Government Council have dissolved the local vigilante, a local security outfit operating in the area following a decision reached at an Executive/Security meeting presided over by Chairman of the local government, Hon. Oluwole Karetimi at the Exco Chambers of the Chairman’s Office.
Briefing journalists at the end of the meeting, Karetimi stated that the dissolution of the vigilante group was necessary to inform the public of their non existence, insisting that their operations ended December 2014.
While stating his administration’s commitment to security of lives and property, Karetimi warned that anyone operating under the umbrella of the suspended group would be liable for arrest and prosecution, saying that the decision was not to witch-hunt anyone, but was for the best interest of the public.
He added that the move is to allow his administration in collaboration with other security agencies in the area review and strengthen the operational activities of vigilante groups in Bomadi Local Government Area for better performance.
The Council Chairman maintained that after due consultations with security agencies as well as other stakeholders, he will set up a new vigilante outfit in line with his administration’s policies to assist the conventional security agencies for effective policing of the local government area, just as he advised the general public to be security conscious and cooperate with security agents in the fight against crime in the Local Government Area.
