An armed robbery suspect identified as Moses Ateke has died at the General Hospital in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State following bullet wound he sustained in his leg.
The suspect, 28-year old Moses Ateke was reportedly shot when he and his purported accomplice, Alex Onakpojega were stopped by members of the Agbarho vigilante, who suspected their move immediately on a motorcycle.
Immediately they were accosted by the vigilante, the said Moses Ateke allegedly pulled out a cut-to-size gun and opened fire on the vigilante operatives, who in defense swiftly returned fire and shot Moses Ateke on his leg before arresting him as well as his accomplice, 25-year old Alex Onakpojega.
Meanwhile, the Police have arrested two armourers of a kidnap gang, recovering one locally made pistol and three live cartridges from them.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, DSP Celestina Kalu, the armourers: Felix Memetobe (male) and Kehinde Amadasu (male) who usually provided vehicle for the kidnappers’ operations were arrested at Sapele following confessions by four members of the gang, Messrs: Ovie Onogbo, Peter Godspower, Emmanuel Idoro and Richard Idoro.
They were initially apprehended by the DPO Oghara Division of the Nigerian Police and handed over to the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Asaba for consolidation of investigation.
The statement noted that it was the confession of the four kidnappers who were arrested in connection with incessant incidents of kidnapping in Oghara and environs that led to the nabbingv of the armourers.
