The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema has announced a two hundred and fifty thousand naira (250,000.00) fine for anyone caught dumping refuse along major roads and streets in Warri, stressing that his administration will not accept such level of lawlessness.
Hon. Edema handed down the warning today in an interview shortly after monitoring the evacuation of refuse dumped indiscriminately at the middle of Ogunu, Cemetery and Airport Roads in Warri.
The Warri South Council Boss, who was visibly disappointed as a result of the mounting heap of refuse on major roads in the Oil City, cautioned against the use of people who are not mentally fit as refuse vendors, insisting their activities only frustrate management of refuse disposal in the local government.
He emphasized the need for residents of Warri to patronize SEEFOR in the disposal of their waste, nothing that their operations are subsidized and more efficient.
Hon. Edema disclosed that his administration has set up machineries in place to ensure that refuse dumped along major roads and streets in Warri are evacuated within the next one week, promising that adequate measures have been put in motion to make the City of Warri cleaner and more aesthetic, both for inhabitants as well as visitors.
