Benin City in Edo State as well as the Oil City of Warri, Sapele and Ughelli, all in Delta State share a meager 175 out of 4,246 Megawatts of electricity distributed daily across the country, Fresh Angle International checks reveal.
This much was disclosed during a telephone chat with the Public Relations Officer of Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, Mr. Curtis Nwajei Monday June 29.
Mr. Curtis Nwajei while lamenting that his company is managing the available megawatts across the four cities, noted that the 175 megawatts is equivalent to 9% of the total megawatts currently being generated and distributed in the country.
According to him, “if enough power is generated at Sapele and Ughelli Power Stations, there will also be an increase in the transmission of Power in Warri as well as the other cities,” just as he enjoined customers of the company to report cases of faulty transformers as BEDC is prepared to “carry out a Commercial/Technical Validity Maintenance free of charge for areas not owing bills”.
