Generals / Ex-militants in Rivers and Other Niger Delta States, Back The Nomination of Chief Michael Johnny for Appointment as Chairman of Amnesty Programme
Our attention has been drawn to a publication in Vanguard Newspaper, dated 30th June, 2015, titled " Ex-militants demand SA on Amnesty programme" in which it was posited that thousands of ex-militants in Phase One, Second Phase and Third Phase of the Presidential Amnesty went to the streets of Warri in Delta State, demanding the urgent filling of the vacant position of Special Adviser on Amnesty programme in the Presidency.
While, we the undersigned Generals / Ex-militants from parts of the Niger Delta States, particularly in Rivers State, support the move in the agitation of a quick appointment of the Special Adviser or Chairman of the Amnesty programme, there was never any such protest in the streets of Warri by ex-militants, who purportedly carried placards with the inscription that one Mr. Famous Daunemugha be appointed as Special Adviser to the President on Amnesty programme.
It is worthy of mention and fair enough to say that the said Mr. Famous Daunemugha, hails from Bayelsa State, where Chief Timi Alaibe who first served in that capacity is from and even the immediate past Special Adviser and Chairman of Amnesty programme, Mr. Kingsley Kuku is from Ondo State.
It is therefore, reasonable for the next Special Adviser or Chairman of the Amnesty programme to be appointed from Delta or Rivers State. However, we the Generals / Ex-militants in Rivers State have resolved to concede the exalted position of the Special Adviser or Chairman of the Amnesty programme to Delta State for now, for some obvious reasons and also backing the nomination of Chief Michael Johnny, who is from Delta State for the position.
We maintain the nomination and projection of Chief Michael Johnny who is resourceful and energetic with firm knowledge of the Niger Delta struggle and the Post Amnesty Programme.
We further reassure President Muhammadu Buhari of our continued support and cooperation. It is also imperative to advise all ex-militants in the Niger Delta region to shun any act capable of breaching the existing peace in the region.
More so, we condemn any move (s) or attempt by any individual or groups to instigate youths and ex-militants in Niger Delta against the Federal Government led by President Buhari.
We must support President Buhari to implement his laudable vision for the Niger Delta region.
