The Esimaje Awani led leadership of Itsekiri National Youths Council, INYC have thrown their weight behind calls on the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to appoint Chairman of Egbema Gbaramatu Communities’ Development Foundation, EGCDF, Chief Michael Johnny as Chairman or Special Adviser to the President on Amnesty Programme for ex-militants in the Niger Delta.
Comrade Esimaje Awani who made the statement in an exclusive chat with Fresh Angle International in Warri, Delta State, declared that the decision to back Chief Michael Johnny for the appointment was taken “after three days consultation/close door meeting by the entire members of INYC”.
While asserting that their resolve to support Chief Johnny is based on his experience, detribalized posture and fairness, the INYC President called for the revalidation of the Amnesty sharing formula in terms of slots between Ijaw and Itsekiri so as to achieve equity as well as fairness.
Comrade Awani reiterated Itsekiri youths’ support for the President Buhari administration and appealed to the Presidency to release fund for Itsekiri youths billed to further their education overseas as part of the Amnesty programme, saying their counterparts from Ijaw extraction have already proceeded for the same programme.
He called on Chief Johnny to work towards bridging the gap between Itsekiri and Ijaw Amnesty beneficiaries if appointed to Chair the Amnesty Programme.
