Eleven Itsekiri RDC Contractors protest over non-payment for jobs executed, official blames Chevron

Eleven community contractors to Chevron established Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC, have been disrupting the administrative service of IRDC in Warri, Delta State, threatening to escalate the protest in the days ahead, over alleged non-payment for jobs awarded by IRDC and duly executed.

Fresh Angle International gathered that the aggrieved indigenous contractors from Ugborodo, Dibi, Olero, Makaraba and Otonana operational areas of Chevron Nigeria Limited, are piqued and frustrated, because, “Community Engagement Management Board, CEMB, the highest administrative organ of the GMoU Model, operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited in the RDCs, had since June 14 this year (2022) approved payments for the jobs”.

When contacted, an executive member of IRDC, who didn’t want his name in print, blamed the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited, particularly the current Team Lead for IRDC in the GMoU, for the non-release of fund, to enable the leadership of IRDC pay the affected contractors, saying the latest development, is alien to the modus operandi of the IRDC and by extension the GMoU, since its operation.
