The Supervisor for Environment in Warri South Local Government Council, Mr. Omawumi Elete, has identified illegal oil bunkery and continuous indiscriminate disposal of refuse by residents of Warri, as the greatest menace facing Warri South Council’s efforts at ensuring a cleaner and environmentally-friendly Warri South Local Government Area.

Fresh Angle International can report that Mr. Elete, an environmentalist, made the assertion in Warri, Thursday October 6, while monitoring the routine environmental sanitation exercise carried out by officials of Warri South Council Environment Department.

While assuring that Warri South Local Government Council is committed to sustaining the momentum of extensive daily clean-up exercise in major roads and streets in the council area, amid what he described as the “poor level of compliance by residents”, Mr. Elete, opined: “On the flooding currently being experienced in most parts of the Niger Delta, we are lucky in Warri, due to efforts by various arms and agencies of government as well as our distinct tidal cycles,  which is the periodic rising and falling of tide”.

He advised residents of Warri, to dispose their wastes properly, saying those living along water channels and canals, should relocate, because “Warri South Local Government Council, will be partnering with the relevant agencies of government, to enforce safe environment practices in the Council Area”.
