Exclusive: Why Uvwie crisis may escalate
Hon. Henry Baro Minabowanre

The crisis that broke out today, Wednesday July 29 following the take-over of Effurun Motor Park by a popular youth in Effurun identified simply as Francis Ariyo and his boys from the Napoleon Adibu leadership may escalate if not immediately nipped in the bud because of its political colouration, Fresh Angle International can report.

While the dethroned leadership of the motor park is said to be loyal to Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area, Hon. Henry Baro Minabowanre and the member representing Uvwie Constituency at Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Efe Oforbruku, who secured the mandate to represent Uvwie on the SDP platform, the new park leadership whose take over is causing serious tension in the local government is speculated to be having the backing of the State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and Evelyn Oboroh of the House of Representatives.

Only last week, five councilors loyal to the federal lawmaker failed in their bid to unseat Leader of the Council Legislative Arm and were subsequently suspended from the House.

There are strong indications that Governor Okowa and Hon. Oboroh are determined to take over political control from Hon. Oforbruku and the Council Boss, Hon. Baro Minabowanre, both of whom appear to be sympathetic to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Report from Effurun this evening suggests that tension is running high and the newly commissioned Shoprite and Delta City Mall have been shut down, while security officials have taken over strategic areas in Effurun.

Meanwhile, there’s a rumour that two soldiers were killed at Jakpa Junction in today’s power tussle, that’s why there are no soldiers there to take care of security.

It remains to be seen how this emerging power tussle between Governor Okowa and Hon. Oboro on one side and Hon. Baro Minabowanre and Hon. Efe Oforbruku on the other side will pan out as it is the constitutional right of Local Government Councils across the country to control Motor Parks and Markets within their Local Government Area.
