Uvwie Crisis: Corper narrowly escape death as hoodlums steal laptop, Blackberry


A Batch C Corp Member serving in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, Chinny Anthony Enechukwu who was returning from Community Development Service, CDS yesterday, July 29 during the heat of the Uvwie crisis, narrowly escaped death along Isoko Estate Road in Effurun as three hoodlums in knives and broken bottles accosted him and his friends in a Tricycle (keke) on their way home, Fresh Angle International can exclusively report.

Chinny Enechukwu told Our Correspondent that his fellow Corper, Peter on sighting the hoodlums took to his heels when he discovered that the Tricycle rider has absconded living him and his friend, Patricia, a Part 3 student of College of Education, Warri, COEWA at the mercy of the hoodlums.

Chinny who was clad in NYSC Kit explained how he attempted escaping but was caught by the hoodlums who held knives and broken bottles. According to him, the hoodlums threatened to kill him and kicked him to the tarred road where he sustained injury on his hand. They asked for his Blackberry Q10 phone and collected his laptop bag, bearing a Dell Inspiron laptop worth N120,000. 00 which he bought in 2014.

While his friend, Patricia was also injured in her hand as well as knees, her handbag was collected which had her Blackberry Bold 5, N10,000.00 cash and her documents.

He told Our Correspondent that after the robbery, vigilantes from that street carrying sticks immediately chased the hoodlums who threw the laptop bag on the tarred road and escaped. He recounted that when the vigilantes returned his laptop bag, he checked the laptop and discovered that the laptop screen was broken.

He disclosed that after 15 minutes, he saw another set of hoodlums approaching with cutlasses and knives, so he and his friend went into hiding till everywhere was calm before returning home.

Fresh Angle International investigation reveals that a popular electronic shop, JOWIL Electronics by Okoloba Junction, Warri-Sapele Road, Effurun was robbed as hoodlums carted away television set and other electronics worth millions of naira, just as Keystone Bank, Effurun branch was on lockdown to avoid being invaded by rampaging youths.

A woman was said to have been hit by stray bullet yesterday at P.T.I Road and she died on the spot and there was sporadic shooting in Effurun throughout Wednesday night.
