The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE, Ugbomro, Delta State, Professor Akaehomen  Okonigbon Akii Ibhadode, has promised to address the perceived marginalization of the people of Ugbomro Community in the running of the institution.
Professor Ibhadode made the promise Friday August 14 during a peaceful protest staged at the school premises by women of Ugbomro Community, host to FUPRE.
Our Correspondent  reports that scores of women from the community at about 7:00am besieged the premises of the institution with placards bearing the inscription, “We need road, employment, contract, M.o.U / C.L.O and space ”.
The FUPRE VC later invited the leader of the protesting women, Ochuko Ogbe to a closed door meeting on Monday August 17 with a view to resolving the contending issues bothering Ugbomro Community.
Some of the grievances of FUPRE host community are: construction of internal road, employment of indigenes of the community in the institution, award of contracts to people of the community in line with the local content act, reinstatement of two sons of the community whose appointments were purportedly terminated, signing of  Memorandum of Understanding between the community and FUPRE as well as the engagement of one of their own as Community Liaison Officer to FUPRE.
The women also demanded for the immediate renaming of the institution from Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun to Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Ugbomro, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State.
