There are growing expectations among Itsekiris across the world, particularly those living in Delta State following the invitation that has been extended to them to gather tomorrow, Saturday September 19, 2015 at their ancestral home, Ode-Itsekiri otherwise known as Big Warri in Warri South Local Government Area.
Itsekiri sons and daughters have been discussing both within the social and indoor circles ahead of the meeting in anticipation even though no agenda was stated in the invite.
Already various Itsekiri socio-cultural groups have perfected arrangements to storm Big Warri from 10:00am Saturday September 19 in anticipation of the gathering expected to chat the way forward as far as the Kingdom is concerned.
The Itsekiris have been politically polarized in recent times and it is believed by many that stability as far as the Olu footstool is concerned will bring about unity and open the way forward for the growth as well as development of Warri Kingdom.
It would be recalled that following speculations surrounding the health of The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse the II, a group of “strict adherents of the custom and tradition of Itsekiri”, The Iwere Integrity Group, IIG had debunked rumours making the rounds regarding the purported demise of the revered monarch.
The IIG in a statement released in Warri, Delta State Tuesday September 8, 2015 and made available to Fresh Angle International, admitted that “His Majesty has some issues with his health”, but promised to let members of the public “know through the Warri Traditional Council should his condition improve or deteriorate”.
The statement which was signed by 39 persons, including IIG Chairman, Prince Moses Fregene, Hon. J.F.K Omatsone, Comrade Omolubi Newuwumi, Prince Charles Omadeli, Omiwere-Ete Boyo and Secretary of the group, Barr. Robinson Ariyo, explained that the body “made up of Princes, Princesses, sons and daughters of Chiefs as well as leaders of different villages and towns across Warri Kingdom”, is committed to the promotion of every strands of the custom and tradition of Itsekiri with all sense of legality.
