Men of the Nigerian Army has uncovered and destroyed over 2000 illegal refineries in Edo and Delta States, Fresh Angle can authoritatively report.
Brigade Commander of the 4 Mechanized Brigade, Brigadier General Obi Abel Umahi, made the disclosure while parading the suspected illegal oil bunkerers, armed robbers and kidnappers in Benin.
Brigadier General Obi Abel Umahi told newsmen in Benin City, Edo State, that the Brigade also destroyed over 200 boats carrying condensed oil to neighboring countries. He also paraded over 45 criminals made up of ex-militants, ex police and army personnel, who he alleged have been involved in illegal bunkering, armed robbery and kidnapping.
The army chief however noted that the true identities of the ex police men and ex soldiers will be determined after a thorough investigation.
Our Benin City Correspondent reports that items recovered from the suspects include several AK 47 riffles, pump action, anti aircraft missile, over 200 cartridges of different sizes and other ammunitions. Brigadier General Umahi thanked the Chief of Army Staff, the governors of Edo and Delta States and other security agencies, particularly the state security service for their support.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who was present, thanked the military for helping to combat crime in the state, especially during the forthcoming elections, “we must keep weapons out of circulation,” he stated.
