Details have emerged on why the Chairman of Delta State Chapter of Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, ACNPN, Mr. Femi Odonmeta, Publisher of Warri Voice Newspaper was impeached barely four months after he narrowly won election to pilot the affairs of the association.
The impeachment of Mr. Femi Odonmeta which has the endorsement of 16 out of 23 members, also saw the association’s Secretary, Mr. Patrick Ochei, Publisher of Anioma Trust as well as the Treasurer, Dr. Dike Awana, Publisher of Frontline News getting the boot over alleged lack of financial transparency and tyrannical conduct.
Moving the motion for the impeachment of the trio Thursday June 14 at Asaba, the former State Chairman and current Deputy National President, Prince Orhomonokpaye stated that the move is not to witch-hunt anybody but to have a leadership that will carry everyone along.
The motion for impeachment which was endorsed by the 16 members reads in part, “after a critical analysis of the 4 – month leadership of Femi Odonmeta, publisher of Warri Voice Newspaper, it is obvious that he lacks the basic leadership qualities of courtesy, good conduct, maturity, ability to moderate deliberations, credibility, intellectual independence, human relations and clear vision to take the association to the much needed greater height.”
Fresh Angle, reliably gathered that the secretary and treasurer were equally impeached for their complicity.
The 16 members also resolved that Vice Chairman of the association, Felida Esse, Publisher of Isoko Mirror Newspaper takes over as Acting Chairman, while the incumbent Publicity Secretary, Prince Charles Umejei, Publisher of The National Trumpet also act as Secretary with Publisher of Ijaw Voice News Magazine, Pastor Preye Foe who was elected Financial Secretary also playing the role of Treasurer.
Fresh Angle can report that a 3-man committee to be chaired by Comrade December Gboru, Publisher of Rural Front has been set up by the Acting Chairman, Felida Esse to investigate all allegations, including financial impropriety leveled against Mr. Femi Odonmeta, Patrick Ochei and Dr. Dike Awana, while the trio has been suspended indefinitely.
Reports say the ousted chairman, Mr. Femi Odonmeta told the state owned electronic media at Asaba few hours after his impeachment that the 16 members who impeached him are “a faceless group fighting government”, even as he has directed his impeached secretary to summon a general meeting of all members Tuesday June 19 at Asaba.
Invitation for the controversial meeting slated for Tuesday June 19 was also sent to the 16 members Mr. Odonmeta described as faceless group.
Indications are rife that the June 19 meeting will not be attended by the New Acting Chairman , her Executive and majority of members of the association .
