Two gunmen on Tuesday June 19 robbed the Chairman of PDP Warri South, Mr. Amah Agbajoh of his phone and other personal effects at Eboh Road by Amaforitse junction in Warri, Fresh Angle can exclusively report.
An eye witness told Fresh Angle that the incident which occurred at about 8.pm when Mr. Agbajoh was about leaving a drinking joint owned by one of his friends, saw the two heavily armed young men ordering the PDP chieftain to lie on the floor and he was ransacked.
Other customers who were at the drinking joint had to take cover on seeing the operation, while Mr. Agbajoh smartly threw one of his phones along the road to stop the gunmen from carting away with both phones. Fresh Angle gathered that the swift operation also saw Mr. Agbajoh misplacing his official PDP car key, but had to be driven home by a friend to take his spare key before finally driving his official car home.
Fresh Angle can authoritatively report that the spot where the robbery took place has become a safe haven for armed robbers in recent times. A girl was killed by gunmen December 2011 in the same area, while another woman sustained serious gunshots.
Despite peace and security being one of the 3 cardinal programmes of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, incidences of armed robbery and high profile kidnappings has reared its ugly head in Delta State, with many Deltans blaming the situation on the lack of democratic structure at the local government level as well as the increasing youth unemployment.
Analysts in the state are even more worried that the impending December 2012 winding up of the Escravos Gas To Liquid Project, EGTL, operated by Chevron may worsen the crime situation if adequate measures are not put in place to check the increasing job losses and cash squeeze being experienced in the state.
