The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli has disclosed plans to set up a constitution drafting committee for Itsekiri Nation with a view to checking the excesses of some of his subjects.
The Monarch made the disclosure Thursday January 14, 2016 at his Palace in Warri, Delta State while addressing a gathering of Warri Chiefs as well as Itsekiri sons and daughters from different communities that make up Warri kingdom.
While noting that Itsekiri interest in institutions such as DESOPADEC, NDDC and the Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC, should be able to fund the Itsekiri Trust-fund to enable it serve its desired purpose, the Olu declared that he does not “know any faction in Itsekiri land”, apparently referring to the factionalisation in Itsekiri groups such as Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC and National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG.
He tasked his subjects to respect constituted authorities and averred that the process of selecting the oldest person (Olare-Aja) in any community is solely the responsibility of that community, even as he stressed that no Olare-Aja should reside outside his community and he has no plan to impose such headship on the communities.
He advised leaders on the need to vacate their positions at the expiration of their tenure and stated that “youthfulness stops at 40 years”, apparently referring to leadership issues in INYC.
