The Federal High Court in the Lagos Judicial Division has granted an order to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to serve the summons, compelling ex-Niger Delta militant, Government Ekpemupolo AKA Tompolo to appear before the Court on a 40-count charge hinged on the fraudulent conversion of several millions of naira, dollars and properties belonging to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA into personal purposes.
The order which was granted Tuesday, January 12, 2016 in Charge No: FHC/L/553c/2015 sequel to a motion ex-parte sought by the EFCC also affects the embattled ex-NIMASA DG, Mr. Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi, Tompolo’s company, Global West Vessel Specialist Limited, Odimixi Electricals Limited, Kime Engozu, Boloboere Property and Estate Limited, Rex Elem, Destre Consult Limited, Gregory Mbonu and Captain Warredi Enisuoh.
The forty count charge includes the conversion of six hundred and one thousand, five hundred and sixteen naira, thirteen kobo (N601, 516.13) and $1, 766, 428.62 (one million, seven hundred and sixty-six thousand, four hundred and twenty-eight dollars, sixty-two cents) property of NIMASA into private concerns, conversion of NIMASA’s N27, 690, 113.79 and $17, 491, 378.64 as well as another twenty-seven million, six hundred and Ninety thousand, one hundred and thirteen naira, seventy-nine kobo (N27, 690,113.79) and seventeen million, four hundred and one thousand, three hundred and seventy eight dollars, sixty-four cents ($17, 491, 378.64) belonging to the agency into personal effects, an offence contrary to section 15 (1) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Amendment) Act 2012 and punishable under section 15(3) of the same Act.
The EFCC had explained that its officials rearrested ex-NIMASA DG, Mr. Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi after he was granted bail by a competent Court because of fresh N34 billion fraud allegation against him, while the Commission also asked Tompolo to appear in its office Thursday December 17, 2015 for questioning regarding the N13 billion land acquisition controversy for Nigerian Maritime University, NMU in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, with a threat to declare him wanted should he fail to appear.
Hearing on the substantive suit as filed by the EFCC has been adjourned to Thursday January 14, 2016.
