Declining Allocation: Delta Council introduces tenement rate for landlords

Business

Following the apparent bankruptcy facing Local Government Councils in Nigeria as a result of declining monthly Federal allocations occasioned by drop in the price of crude oil at the International Market, authorities of Warri South Local Government Council in Delta State have concluded plans to introduce tenement rate for landlords and other property owners.

This much was disclosed Tuesday January 26, by Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema while addressing staff of the Council on ways to shore up the  Council’s revenue so as to be able to offset the over four months’ salary arrears being owed staff and possibly address other statutory responsibilities.

Warri South Local Government Council suffered N3.8million deficit in the last monthly Federal allocation, with obvious sign that the situation may not get any better as a result of the less than N400 billion shared in this week’s FAAC meeting at Abuja.

Fresh Angle International also learned that apart from plans to introduce tenement rate for landlords and other property owners in Warri South Local Government Area, the Local Government Council has equally disclosed her intention to roll out sewage fees, even though the manner these revenues will be collected was yet to be made public as at the time of this report.
