Itsekiri ex-student leaders threaten shut-down of Total Plc over perceived neglect

A group of former tertiary institution student leaders of Itsekiri extraction under the auspices of “Ex-Itsekiri Students’ Executive” have threatened to shut-down the operations of Total Nigeria Plc in Koko, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, over what they termed, “neglect of Itsekiri students regarding Industrial Training (IT) slots by the company”.

In a press statement made available exclusively to Fresh Angle International weekend in Warri, they alleged that earlier petitions written to the company on the issue have been deliberately ignored by the Koko Plant Manager of Total Nigeria Plc, saying they are “disappointed over his refusal to accept our students due for industrial training”.

The statement signed by Advocate Young Piero and Gift Uruntie, President and Secretary of Ex- Itsekiri Students’ Executive, claimed that “Total Nigeria Plc, Koko is the only establishment that has the highest record of impunity and neglect on industrial training students for over two (2) years now. We have also noticed that Total Nigeria Plc Koko only accept 2 Industrial Training Students per year out of an estimated 300 Itsekiri students”.

The Ex- Itsekiri Student leaders vowed that if the company management fails to provide a veritable platform to address their demand, they may be compelled to shut-down Total Nigeria Plc, Koko operations, just as they drew the attention of the relevant government agencies to their perceived neglect.
