We will not leave Chevron’s Olero, Dibi Fields by force - NDIOPC declares

Members of the Niger Delta Itsekiri Oil and Gas Producing Communities, NDIOPC, say they will not leave the Olero and Dibi Fields operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited through forceful means, unless the company’s management engage them in peaceful discussion and ultimately meet their demands.

Leader of the NDIOPC, Comrade Raymond Aderojor, while addressing newsmen Monday December 5, said the renewed protest at the Chevron’s platform, which began last week, was due to the alleged failure by the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited to honour an agreement purportedly reached July this year (2022) following the intervention of His Imperial Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, The Olu of Warri.

Our Senior Correspondent, reports that Aderojor, asserted that the agreement reached after the Warri Monarch’s intervention, was for Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, to implement NDIOPC’s demands, “especially for the conversion of VTP5/OTP2 and VTP6 personnel to Chevron staff, end to casualization of indigenous host communities’ workers, relocation of Chevron’s operational headquarters to Warri kingdom, provision of portable drinking water, electricity and employment, within four months from July”.

Whilst accusing management of the oil and gas major of recruiting people from Lagos and other parts of the country to work as staff in the platform, “'whereas qualified host communities’ indigenes have no job”, Aderejor, declared: “Some Itsekiri leaders from Olero and Dibi Communities, are plotting to use military against us. Any attempt to use military against our peaceful protesters, will backfire”.

Publicity Secretary of NDIOPC, Jemine Alfred, claimed that the unnamed Itsekiri leaders from Olero and Dibi Communities, wrote letter to DSS, JTF and Police, with a view to asking the security agencies to forcefully chase them out of the CNL platform.

Recall that the group had occupied Olero, Dibi, and Abiteye Fields of Chevron Nigeria Limited in protest for two weeks, from July 9, this year (2022) before the Olu of Warri intervened and the peaceful protest was stopped.
