The National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG worldwide, has called on the Federal Government and National Assembly to halt every action regarding the constitution of a substantive board for Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, until Itsekiri Nation gets what they described as fairness, equity and justice.
Fresh Angle International gathered that the National President of NAIG, Comrade Ben Eyitemi Eburajolo, handed down the demand while addressing newsmen in Warri, Delta state, weekend, during the last congress of the association for the year 2022.
Eburajolo, a former scribe of the apex Itsekiri graduates' body, declared in parts:
"The National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, an umbrella body of all Itsekiri graduates worldwide, throw our weight behind the protest by Itsekiri National Youths Council, INYC and the Niger Delta Itsekiri Oil and Gas Producing Communities, NDIOPC, on the demands that the position of the MD and Chairman of NDDC, be occupied by an Itsekiri indigene. Itsekiri Nation, has been the highest producer of crude oil and gas in Delta and Edo States, hence we are long over - due for the positions of Chairman and Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
" As the intellectual organ of Itsekiri Nation, we cannot fold her hands and allow such injustice and marginalization to be done to the Itsekiris, particularly when the act that established the Commission, attested to Itsekiri legitimate agitation for inclusion.
“We are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to revisit the nominees for the next substantive board of NDDC and the Senate should not screen the nominees sent by President Buhari, unless the federal government include Itsekiri indigene (s) on the list, for fairness, equity and justice.
“We are fully in support of the ongoing protest in all Itsekiri oil bearing communities and the recent law suit filed against the Federal Government by aggrieved Itsekiris. We will not relent, until the Federal Government yields to the voice of reasoning. This gross marginalization will no longer be tolerated, going forward. The fact that we are peace - loving people does not mean we are helpless, weak or ignorant of the law.”
