Team Urhobo defeats Team Itsekiri 4:2 as Dr. Tidi Inter-Community Unity/Peace Cup, begins

On a night (Sunday December 18) when South American giant, Argentina defeated former world champions, France 4:2 on penalties, to clinch the 2022 World Cup, a select-team from the different Urhobo communities in Warri South Local Government Area, under the umbrella of Team Urhobo, also defeated their Itsekiri neighbours, Team Itsekiri 4:2 in a novelty football match, held at Nana College, Warri Football pitch, to formally kick off the maiden Dr. Tidi Inter-Community Unity/Peace Cup.

The game of 2 halves of 30minutes each, was watched by the chief host, Dr. Michael Tidi, Vice Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Chief (Mrs.) Divine Ann Iniovosa, Deputy Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. Oris Eyikimi, representatives of the members representing Warri South Constituencies I and II in the Delta State House of Assembly, Dr. Augustine Uroye and Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, respectively, Secretary to Warri South Local Government, Mr. Joseph Oribioye, Chief Francis Omatseye, former member of Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Ojere Edeyibo, councilors and supervisors of Warri South Local Government Council as well as other categories of spectators.

 

Fresh Angle International understands that the tournament, which will be on knock-out bases, kicks off in earnest today, Monday December 19, with Okere Community taking on Orugbo Community at Nana College field, Warri, while Atse Olu Community, will slug it out with Okere Urhobo Community by 3.30 pm at same venue.

 

Other games slated for today are; Big Warri (Ode-Itsekiri) vs Elders’ Town Community and Ugbori Community vs Edjeba Community, both at Hussey College Warri pitch.

Warri South Council Supervisor for Community Development, Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Mr. Sunny Omene Mabiaku, had in a pre-tournament presser held Thursday December 15 in Warri, explained that the inter-community soccer fiesta, will be hosted by the second-term Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael E. Tidi.
