As part of efforts to ensure that the peace and security in Warri is sustained, Chairman of the Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, on Friday held an interactive session with youth chairmen in the council.
The chairman, who was represented by the supervisors for Youths, Sports and Community Development, Mr Elvis Okpako Eboh, said the meeting became necessary owing to the fact that we are in electioneering period.
He said the youth chairmen in Warri South Local Government Area are key stakeholders in keeping the peace and security in the council area.
Tidi, therefore, appealed to the over 40 youth chairmen that attended the meeting to synergize with the council and the security agencies to ensure that the forthcoming election is peaceful during and after the election.
He said information sharing is a very important aspect of peace keeping efforts, calling on them to go home and re-strategize and synergize with one another.
He appealed to the youth chairmen also to liaise with the council so that they can work together to ensure that the proper thing is done to sustain the exiting peace.
"Let us ensure that Warri South continues to be peaceful during and after the elections. I must warn all of you to be wary of conflict entrepreneurs who are out to foment problems to make money. Let us work together as a team. We must do whatever it takes to ensure that Warri is peaceful during and after the election," Tidi said.
He also tasked the youth chairmen to always bring up humanity rather than ethnicity which, according to him, is used to deceive the people and to cause crisis.
Her thanked the community chairman for attending the meeting in spite of their busy schedules, adding that the meeting will be a continuous thing.
Most of the youth leaders who spoke at the programme commended the council for organizing the meeting saying it has afforded them the opportunity to know themselves.
They promised to work with the council to ensure that there is peace and security in their areas.
