Boko Haram: Christians charged to assist IDPs

Christians have been charged to assist Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs who suffered from the vicious attacks from the Boko Haram sect as well as other less privileged people in the society.

 The charge was given by the Camp Coordinator and General Overseer of International Christian Centre for Missions, Benin City, Edo State,Pastor Solomon Folorunsho on Sunday March 14 during a visit to the IDPs’ camp by Avenue Baptist Church Warri, Youth Fellowship.

Our Senior Correspondent who was in Benin City, reports that as part of measures to cater for the Internally Displaced Persons and the less privileged in the society, the youth body of Avenue Baptist Church Warri, donated toiletries, cloths, beverages and other items worth several thousands of naira to the IDPs.

 Presenting the items, the Avenue Baptist Church Youth Fellowship President, Zakari Amunega, who was represented by the Vice President, Philip Ogheneochuko Frank, thanked God for His provisions which made it possible to render assistance to the needy in the society and appealed to other churches, Non Governmental Organizations and other cooperate bodies to come to the aid of the IDPs in the country.

Responding, the IDPs’ Camp Coordinator, Pastor Folorunsho Solomon explained that he decided to assist in caring for the IDPs due to incessant attacks Christian faithful experienced in the hands of Boko Haram in Borno State, saying that informed his decision to evacuate them to Benin City, Edo State for adequate care.

According to the Christian cleric, they are more than 2,200 IDPs in the camp and the centre spends more than 15, 000 naira daily for the purchase of diesel to power their generating plant due to non installation of public power supply to the camp.
