*As Oshiomhole’s strong man decamps to PDP
As the July 14 Edo State gubernatorial poll draws nearer, the Peoples Democratic Party has lost over five hundred of its members in Irrua, Esan Central local government to the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.
Our Benin City Correspondent reports that the decampees’ include a former chairman of PDP in the area, Mr. Omijie Alexandra.
Receiving the decampees, Honourable Phillip Shaibu who represented the Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said that the large number of decampees is an eloquent testimony of the fact that the Oshiomhole administration has positively affected the lives of people in the area.
Hon Shaibu, who is a lawmaker presented two motor-bikes to two loyal ACN fateful in the area and canvassed for the re-election of Governor Oshiomhole, promising that his re-election will bring development to other parts of the local government.
While thanking the lawmaker for the gesture, one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Omigie Alexandra, a retired Sergeant in the Nigeria Army, said the gesture will go a long way in solving some of his problems, even as he pledged his support for the Comrade Governor.
Members of the Association of Motorcycle Riders who decamped from PDP to the ruling ACN spoke through their president, Mr. Matthew Idemudia. They stressed that governance is all about development and impacting positive things to the masses.
The traditional head of the area, Chief David Osage of Idumebo said the present government in the state has almost touched every aspect of their lives and advised his subjects to vote massively for ACN.
Meanwhile a close ally to the Edo State Governor and a dogged labour leader in Edo State, Comrade Tony Erha has decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, just as he moved with members of Edo Coalition for Democracy and Good Governance, ECODAGG.
This much was disclosed recently in Benin City, Edo State at a press briefing by the Coordinator General of the group, Comrade Tony Erha.
According to him, they were behind the Comrade Governor during his days as National labour president, but decided to dump his candidacy for the PDP because “of his anti masses programmes”. He added, “frankly speaking we have no explanation over many allegations made against the ACN government by the people, like the alleged personal enrichment of some of his officers worth billions of naira from public funds, imposing on the people more hardship through heavy taxation, alleged inflation of contract and bad policies.”
The Coordinator General further gave reasons for adopting the PDP candidate, Major Gen. Charles Airhiavbere (Rtd). His words, “the PDP candidate is very equipped, selfless, accountable, humane and can take Edo to greater height”.
