Men of the Anti-terrorist Squad of the Nigerian Police Force, otherwise known as Red beret on Wednesday June 27 prevented suspected kidnappers from collecting ransom from the family of their kidnapped victim at Emebiren Street, by Karien Market in Warri, Delta State, Fresh Angle can exclusively report.

Our  Senior Correspondent who was at the scene of the incident, reports that the kidnappers had earlier spread themselves at strategic locations  in the area in a bid to collect the undisclosed ransom as agreed with family members of their victim. Unknown to them that their victim’s family had already invited the anti-terrorist squad who subsequently laid ambush in the same area. One of the policemen stood opposite a white Mercedes benz car where the ransom which was in a travelling bag was kept, disguising as a lunatic.

Shortly after taking position, one of the suspected kidnappers came in motorbike and attempted carrying the travelling bag containing the ransom. In the process, the disguised policeman who was clad in mufti opened fire on him. Immediately, the suspect left the bag and escaped with injuries sustained from the police bullets, while the other members of his gang who had spread themselves in the area scampered for safety.
The incident led to police harassment, intimidation and brutalization of residents and passersby in the area.

Fresh Angle can report that the policemen went into people’s houses to effect arrests in the area, thus prompting male residents in the area to flee their homes.

Our Senior Correspondent who monitored the incident as it unfolds, reports that the policemen traced the residence of the suspected kidnapper by the name Samson, who escaped with injuries to his father’s compound at Onogho Street, off Onofeghara by Polokor Market. Fresh Angle gathered that the policemen who worked on information traced the injured suspect to 18 Onofeghara Street, opposite Kefe Academy and discovered that the kidnapped victim was there. They rescued the abducted woman, shot sporadically into the air and scattered the house.

Fresh Angle gathered that the kidnapped woman only gave birth to a bouncing baby 2 weeks before the incident.
As at the time of filing this report, men of the Nigerian Police Force who refused to speak to Fresh Angle were still combing the area.
