Workers in the 25 Local Government Councils in Delta State that are being owed average seven months’ salary arrears are to get two months’ salary next week following agreement reached for the rotation of the monthly federal allocation accruing to local government councils in the state.
A member of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON who made the disclosure to Our Correspondent, explained that the Delta State Council of Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC led by Comrade David Ofoeyeno finalized arrangement for the rotation after a committee comprising of representatives of ALGON, NULGE and NUT came out with a report. The monthly federal allocations to local government councils continued to slide downward in the last one year as a result of drop in the prize of crude oil at the international market, thus making the councils to incur huge salary arrears and finding it almost impossible to meet up with its daily obligations.
Competent sources confirmed that following the new arrangement, the monthly federal allocation to local government councils in the state will be rotated on monthly bases between local government councils and staff of primary schools to enable them pay staff salary once in the two months, pending improvement in the federal allocations.
