The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, Dr. Michael Tidi, says some persons thought his administration was playing politics when he responded few weeks ago, to videos and pictures of pupils and students from adjourning communities, ferrying themselves to the public primary and secondary schools in Ode-Itsekiri.
Dr. Tidi, made the assertion in Warri, Wednesday March 8, during the handing over of 100 - person capacity boat built by Warri South Local Government Council, to the Chairman of Ode-Itsekiri Management Committee.
The Warri South Council Boss, had on Friday January 27, while responding to the videos and pictures that surfaced online, disclosed that his administration had stepped - up work for the completion of the 100 - person capacity boat, that will ferry students and pupils schooling at Ode – Itsekiri in Warri South Local Government Area, assuring that the boat would also accommodate teaching and non - teaching staff as well as corps members deployed to the schools in the Itsekiri ancestral home.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony, which was attended by Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Hon. (Mrs.) Shola Daibo, Hon. Kenneth Efejuku, an Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in Warri South Local Government, Mr. Johnson Agbeyegbe, two former Chairmen of the party in Warri South; Dr. Meyiwa Erewa and Mr. Amah Agbajoh, Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. Sylvester Ijabor as well as a Chieftain of PDP and leader in Okere-Urhobo, Rev. Canon David Otofia, Dr. Tidi, described donation of the boat as a dream come through.
“The ferry boat is direct response to the cries of teachers, parents, students and pupils in Ode Itsekiri and adjourning communities”, Dr. Tidi asserted.
Whilst stating that his administration has been responding swiftly to the yearnings of people of Warri South as exemplified in the previous donation of fishing boats and apparatus to communities and corporative societies, the Second-term Warri South Chief Executive, stated: “The corporative societies, have been making judicious use of the fishing boats and their trade is booming.”

He charged the Ode-Itsekiri adjourning communities and schools, to take ownership of the boat, protect it against vandalism, theft and avoid mishap, saying Warri South Local Government Council, is ready to intervene when necessary.
Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Hon. (Mrs.) Daibo commended Dr. Tidi for donating the boat, which according to her, would uplift education in Warri Kingdom and alleviate the sufferings of pupils and students from the riverine communities.
Warri South PDP Chairman, Mr. Johnson Agbeyegbe, also spoke in the same vein, even as the Chairman of Ode-Itsekiri Management Committee, Mr. Anthony Odongharo, recalled how they tabled request for the boat to Dr. Michael Tidi few months ago.
