The Police in Delta state, says members of a certain " Bobone" armed robbery gang, terrorizing Warri and environs, on Friday June 23, engaged its men from' A' Division, Warri, on a shootout along Chevron Road, Edjeba in the Oil City, even as members of the gang, reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries.
According to a statement released this afternoon by the Delta State Police Command, the gun duel occurred when a 58 - year old member of the notorious gang, who was apprehended along Stadium Road, Warri, took them to the hideout of other members of the gang along Chevron Road. On sighting the police team alongside their member, who was apprehended, the armed robbers, allegedly attacked the police team.
The statement credited to the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, claimed that it was during the gun duel that the unnamed 58 - year old suspect, who purportedly attempt to escape, was fatally maimed on his leg, thereby preventing his escape.
The 58 - year old suspect, who the police said confessed to be the armourer of the dreaded gang, died at the hospital while receiving treatment.
One AK - 47 riffle and three magazines, were recovered from the neutralized 58 - year old suspect, before he took the police team to Chevron Road, Edjeba.
