Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Tidi Michael, handed down the order Monday June 26, while announcing the reconstitution of Warri South Local Government Council Special Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation and Beautification.
The special taskforce, which has a former Supervisor for Environment in Warri South, Mr. Kenneth George, returning as Chairman and Mrs. Amoma Iwere as Secretary, is saddled with the following responsibilities: “Evacuate all illegal dump sites in Warri South Local Government Area and stop further dumping of refuse on such spots, stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the streets of Warri Metropolis and Environs, ensure free flow of traffic on the roads in Warri South, clear all blocked drains in and around Warri metropolis, close down illegal motor parks, relocate traders on the streets, medians or any unauthorized place to any of the markets in the Local Government Area and prevent unapproved road closure for events’ purposes”.
They are also mandated to clear all illegal structures, illegal billboards and banners as well as abandoned vehicles on the roads, in a renewed resolve to restore the aesthetics of Warri.
Whilst stating that the chairman and the secretary of the reconstituted taskforce, were at liberty to coopt other members and would be answerable to the Secretary to Warri South Local Government, Mr. Joseph Oribioye, the Warri South Council Boss, underscored the need for the Oil City of Warri to be at par with other cities in Niger Delta like Port-Harcourt and Calabar.
