The Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Kogi State Chapter, has celebrated its 10th anniversary in grand style, with a week-long lineup of events themed “A Decade of Progress: Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges.”
To promote intellectual growth and professional development, the association hosted a scientific conference during the anniversary week. The event featured scholarly presentations, a keynote address, and engaging sessions on current issues.
The scientific meeting of the anniversary celebrations was held at the Government House in Lokoja, attracting an array of dignitaries, healthcare professionals, government officials, and traditional rulers.
The scientific meeting was not only about learning but also a platform for sharing ideas and enhancing the association collective knowledge.
In her address, the President of MWAN Kogi Chapter, Dr. Yetunde Owa, described the celebration as a moment of reflection, appreciation, and renewed commitment to medical excellence and community service.
“Today, we mark a decade of progress, purpose, and passion—breaking barriers and building bridges in the service of humanity,” Dr. Owa declared. “Ten years ago, a vision was born: to unite female medical professionals in Kogi State under a common goal of advancing the health and well-being of women, children, and our communities. Today, we are not just marking time; we are celebrating a meaningful journey.”
Dr. Owa paid glowing tribute to the past presidents and executive members of MWAN Kogi Chapter, commending their pioneering efforts.
“We would not be here without the visionary leadership of our past presidents, who laid the foundation we proudly stand on today,” she said. “Their selflessness and resilience continue to inspire us. To our members past and present thank you for your unwavering dedication. You are the heartbeat of this association.”
She also extended gratitude to sponsors and partners whose support, she said, had been vital to MWAN’s ability to impact lives across the state.
“Your belief in our mission has empowered us to touch communities and improve healthcare delivery. You are not just supporters; you are family,” she noted.
As part of the anniversary activities, MWAN carried out a series of impactful initiatives across the state. According to Dr. Owa, the association visited key institutions, including government agencies, hospital management teams, and traditional leaders, to strengthen partnerships and explore new avenues for collaboration.
In a show of solidarity and support for healthcare institutions, MWAN donated theatre gowns to the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja (FTHL) and the Kogi State Specialist Hospital (KSSH).
“These donations are part of our commitment to support patient care and enhance the quality of service delivery,” she explained.
Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that the major highlight of the celebration was a community-wide medical outreach organized by MWAN, where hundreds of residents received free health consultations, screenings, education, and medications.
“The outreach reflects our ongoing mission to reach the underserved and promote preventive healthcare,” Dr. Owa said. “It’s a direct way to give back and show that we are not just in the hospitals—we are in the heart of our communities.”
A glamorous Anniversary Dinner and Awards Night was also held, with dignitaries in attendance. The event featured goodwill messages, recognition of outstanding contributors, and moments of reflection on MWAN’s journey so far.
“Our 10th anniversary is not just a celebration of our past—it’s a recommitment to our future,” Dr. Owa emphasised. “We are ready for the next decade of advocacy, excellence, and service.”
Jummat prayer was held at the Central Mosque, Lokoja, to seek divine blessings, and concluded with a Thanksgiving Service, where members expressed gratitude for a decade of impactful service.
The MWAN Kogi Chapter’s 10th anniversary celebration was widely hailed as a resounding success, marking a significant milestone in the association’s history and underscoring its vital role in shaping healthcare delivery in the state.
