PIA : Ugborodo Community halts SPDC's attempt to fix ruptured crude Oil Line

People of Ugborodo Federated Communities in Warri South - West Local Government Area of  Delta state, have halted attempt by Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, to fix the ruptured Otumara - Ogidigben Crude Oil line at Ajudaibo Manifold in Ugborodo.

Stoppage of the repair work, was blamed on the seeming defiance by management of the oil and gas major, to comply with an ultimatum handed down to the company by the community.

The community had given SPDC midnight of June 9 as deadline, to negotiate directly with them on the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA, after the necessary approval from the Eghare - Aja of Ugborodo, Eghare  - Daniel Uwawah.

It was gathered that the ruptured line, which carries crude oil from the SPDC facility, was discovered about a month ago by an indigenous pipeline surveillance company, in the course of its routine operations, along the Ugborodo axis.

Credible sources in the community, told this newspaper that SPDC started work on repair of the ruptured line about two weeks ago, but Ugborodo youths had to halt the repair work few days ago, as a result of alleged refusal  by SPDC management to comply with the ultimatum given by the community, after its enlarged meeting at Ode - Ugborodo earlier this month.

The community had spoke of progress in its engagement with the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL as regards the implementation of PIA, after prolonged protests against CNL and vowed to ensure that all oil and gas companies operating in their land, discuss with them directly in - line with the relevant provisions of  the PIA, insisting the Act is community - based.
