The Kogi NGOs Network, (KONGONET), has called for Increased investment and reform in the healthcare sector, focusing on infrastructure development at the community level, recruitment and training of medical professionals, as well as provision of essential medical supplies.
This was contained in the 2023 second quarter report signed by Amb. Idris Ozovehe Muraina Chairperson, KONGONET and Executive Director, Renaissance Care and Empowerment Foundation, RECEF and Mrs. Ibiteye A. Bola, Assistant Secretary, KONGONET and Coordinator, Women Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA).
Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that the group also called for the Revitalization of the education system giving special attention to basic education through increased funding, infrastructure improvement and recruitment of qualified primary school teachers.
KONGONET also said their is need for adequate Support for the agricultural sector through the provision of modern farming techniques, access to credit facilities, and the establishment of agricultural extension services, saying that all plans to sell off fixed assets of the agricultural ministry across the three senatorial districts
should be halted forthwith.
It said, their is need for improvement in water supply infrastructure and the implementation of effective management systems to ensure access to clean and safe water for all communities, adding that funds should be made available to fix the Greater Lokoja water project currently going moribund.
The statement stressed further that there is need to Strengthening social services through increased funding, efficient resource allocation and the implementation of transparent and accountable policies.
The effect of the subsidy removal on citizens, the group appealed to the Kogi State government to come clear on the strategies to mitigate the economic effects of fuel subsidy removal on PMS.
As a way of enhancing of security measures in the state, the group said government should consider the redeployment of more police officers to the state and training of law enforcement personnel, implementation of community policing initiatives, and the establishment of proactive crime prevention strategies, not reactional, as it is being observed towards the upcoming election in the state.
In addition, it said the Kogi State Police command should commence and sustain monthly stakeholder’s engagement on election security ahead of the Kogi state governorship election coming up in November, 2023.
It states that Kogi NGOs Network (KONGONET), will consistently support laudable initiatives of government to ameliorate the suffering of Kogites and ensure the state upholds the tenets of democracy and fair play in her administration of the peoples collective
