Just In: SDP alleges plot by INEC staff to manipulate BVAS in Kogi Governorship poll

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has alleged plot by some staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to manipulate Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS in the fast - approaching Kogi state governorship election.

Fresh Angle International can report that the Director of New Media Muri/Sam Campaign Council, Isaiah Davies Ijele, made the allegation in a statement released today, Saturday, October 21.

According to him, the Kogi State Government has purportedly lodged three INEC staff in Government House since Wednesday, 18th October, 2023.

He mentioned the names of the three INEC staff, who are in the ICT and Account departments of the Commission.

The statement reads in part :"Insiders have revealed that three INEC staff (Names withheld) who have been contracted by the Governor, are heavily involved in a covert operation aiming to reconfigure and personalize Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) devices.

"These devices, conveniently stockpiled by Governor Bello, are allegedly set to be clandestinely merged with INEC's deployment in specific regions such as Okene, Adavi, and Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

"We urgently call upon the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu to initiate an immediate inquiry into the activities of these mentioned staff members.

" Additionally, we implore the Department of State Services, the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police Force, as well as all relevant National and International electoral monitoring bodies and security agencies, to take necessary action".

Ijele, warned against any attempt to disrupt or manipulate the voices and choices of Kogites in the forthcoming election, through electoral fraud, adding that, such actions will be met with firm resistance.

In swift a reaction, Spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council, Kingsley Fanwo, described the allegation as false and baseless.

His words: "Anything they touch turns into fraud. It is important for the National Headquarters of the SDP to intervene to save the name of the party from Muri-Sam, whose pettiness and lies, are fast turning the party to a 'Press Propaganda Party.

"We are on our way to Kogi East to campaign and reassure our people of consolidation and continuity. We have no place for fraud. We are confident of winning a free, fair, credible and peaceful poll.

"The SDP Governorship Candidate is frantically shopping for excuses to justify his loss. We sympathise with him and his situation at the moment".
