For the third time in a row, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello was on Friday August 26 booed, stoned and held hostage at the Lokoja Central Mosque where he went to observe prayers to mark the 25th anniversary of the creation of the state, Fresh Angle International can report.
An eye witness told Our Roving National Correspondent that it took the intervention of security agents and Chief Imam of Lokoja Central Mosque before the governor was able to run for cover from the rampaging youths who seemed determined to lynch Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
The rampaging youths reportedly defied security arrangement around the governor for close to one hour, demanding explanation as to why the state government is owing workers’ salary for several months.
It would be recalled that two similar attacks on the governor occurred recently at the Okene Central Mosque as well as the Palace of the late Ejeh of Ankpa, Alhaji Ahmodu Yakubu .
Reacting to the development, Kogi Democratic Group, said the only way people of Kogi can show dissatisfaction over perceived bad governance is through demonstration in the mosque.
The group strongly condemned the use of security agents to cordon off strategic areas of Lokoja, particularly against armless and innocent citizens of Kogi State.
