As part of untiring efforts and strategies to ensure that criminals especially of heinous crimes have no hiding place for criminals and are eradicated, the Delta Police Command had rolled out a new operation, “Eagle Net” which will complement with efforts of the existing operational outfits in the state to combat crime.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Zanna Ibrahim made the disclosure to Journalists in Asaba, Delta State, while parading 74 arrested suspects, comprising a Vigilante Boss, one Anthony Oren, 73 other suspected kidnappers and armed robbers in the past one month of its operations.
The CP Ibrahim said during the suspects’ arrest, six stolen vehicles as well as N1, 800, 000.00, part of the ransom money for the release of one Mrs. Judith Osayande was recovered from the hoodlums.
He explained that N1, 800, 000. 00 was part of the ransom money paid to one Joshua Okoh alias “Onos” for the release of kidnapped Mrs. Judith Osayande of No. 30 Chris Mary Street Benin-City, Edo who was kidnapped along Edjegba road Warri by unknown armed men.
He stated that when Joshua Okoh was raided and arrested, he confessed to the crime and following a thorough search of his house, the sum of N1, 800, 000.00, part of the over N3 million ransoms collected for releasing the kidnapped victim.
He said that other items recovered were the victim’s Toyota Camry Car with Registration No. BEN 825JA, one automatic pump action gun, a double barrel gun, 13 live cartridges, one Honda Accord with Registration No. DSZ 183DG belonging to the suspect, and believed to have been bought with the proceeds of kidnapping as well as other house-hold equipment.
Also arrested in connection with the crime are; one Anthony Oren, the Vigilante Chairman of Orhakpo Community (alleged of concealing the criminals), ThankGod Okpeperhie of Orhakpo Community, an errand boy to one of the gang members identified as Dennis (surname withheld) currently at large and Clement Efanyhobera of No. 19 New Street Orhakpo Community who allegedly aided the escape of the said Dennis.
