Delta Community petitions Warri Monarch over installation of ‘illegal’ head
The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli

A fresh controversy appears to be brewing in Tisun Community, Warri North Local Government Area in Delta State as some elders and leaders of the community have petitioned the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli over the purported installation of one Pa. Orighoye Boyi as the Olare-Aja (community Head) of the community by some allegedly misguided persons, insisting there is “a substantive Olare-Aja resident in the community in the person of Pa. Godwin Jemide”.

Our Correspondent reports that the petition was signed by elders and leaders of the three families that make up Tisun Community, namely Pa. A.O.S. Eruwa Omajugho, head of Eruware family; Pa. Andrew Odonghanro of the Detse family and Pa. Samson Lube of the Matami family.Others are: Mr. John Ayewu, Pa. James Menetie Afotanju and Pa. Omawumi Edema.

They claimed that the purported installation of Pa. Boyi at the community town hall on the 28th of September 2016 never took place and the so-called installation is “illegal, null and void” as Pa. Godwin Jemide of the Matami family remains the bonafide Olare-Aja of Tisun.

According to the petitioners, the Olare-Aja of Tisun must be the eldest male child from any of the aforesaid three families and that by their custom and tradition, only the eldest male by age from the male lineage can become Olare-Aja at the demise of any ruling Olare-Aja, adding that the allegedly installed Pa. Boyi is “from the female lineage and lives at Oghara in Ethiope –West Local Government Area of Delta State”.

“Pa. Orighoye Boyi is the eldest male in Tisun Community and he is not from the male lineage. He is only maternally related to Tisun and cannot therefore be an Olare-Aja of Tisun community as demanded by our custom and tradition”, the petitioners declared.

According to them, Pa. Godwin Jemide who is the eldest male in Tisun and of the Matami family from the male lineage “was declared and conferred as Olare-Aja of Tisun upon the demise of Pa. Samuel Omaejalile on 12th of September, 2015 in a general meeting of Tisun community to the knowledge of those who purportedly installed Pa. Boyi and that Boyi is not only a junior to Pa. Jemide in the community, Pa. Boyi is even not the head of the Eruware family where he maternally hails from”.

The petition which copied the Oshodin of Warri, Chief Isaac Jemide, averred that those who installed Pa. Boyi as Olare-Aja “are only out to seek an extension of their tenure of office by trick”, stressing that the entire community is set to resist all their antics.

They appealed to the Olu of Warri to urgently intervene in the matter and call Pa. Boyi and his cohorts to order to save the community from unwarranted crisis.
