The Ugborodo Graduates Association, UGA in Warri South West Local Government Area have accused Chevron Nigeria Limited of failing to implement the federal government local content act, alleging that employment opportunities given to Osun State alone supersedes the entire employments given to people of the Niger Delta.
In a statement made available to Newsmen, the group wondered why Chevron is yet to relocate its corporate headquarters to Ugborodo like its counterparts have done in Cross River and Rivers States.
The statement which was signed by Erefoluwa Maurice and Olowu Peter, President and Secretary respectively, accused the oil major of denying employment to over a hundred Itsekiris that passed the Ogere training and the balance POT result “because their Yoruba Kinsmen failed it in multitude.”
According to the group, apart from “systematic exclusion and deliberate neglect of development responsibilities in Itsekiri Communities,” Chevron is using a policy of divide and rule “to manipulate the election or selection of preferred candidates as community leaders,” with a view to further denying its host communities basic infrastructural development.
While accusing Chevron of ceding major contracts and projects to non indigenes against the local content act, UGA advised the company to invest the $50million earmarked for its planned Partnership Initiatives for Niger Delta on the human capital development of indigenes of its host communities, rather them giving aid to people who are jobless.
UGA vowed to apply the “no reserve, no retreat, no regret” initiative on Chevron if it fails to accede to their demands, just as they declared that they are vehemently against Chevron’s equal opportunity employment policy which deprives host communities of their rights.
