The Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC has cautioned the Federal Government against further delay in the payment of monthly stipends to ex-militants, under the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, saying it’s capable of festering criminality and causing crisis in the Niger Delta.

INYC President, Comrade Esimaje Awani who gave the caution in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International Monday January 3 in Warri, admonished Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta Affairs and Coordinator, PAP, Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh (Rtd.) to immediately facilitate payment of the five-month arrears of the monthly stipends.

According to the Itsekiri Youth Leader, explanation by Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh (Rtd.) that the Federal Government was doing everything possible to ensure that ex-militants were paid to avert such delay in future may not be enough considering the current hardship across the country and the gross neglect of Niger Delta over the years.

He posited that paying the ex-militants their monthly stipends as at when due will help to check crude oil theft and illegal bunkering.

The INYC statement is coming on the heels of similar alarm raised weekend by Ijaw Youth Council, IYC through its Spokesman, Mr. Eric Omare.
