Ahead of the crunch National Executive Committee, NEC meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, slated for tomorrow, Thursday April 18, the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, has reportedly passed vote of confidence on its Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum.
Damagum, enjoys the backing of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara as well as some bigwigs of the party, particularly from the North Central, are against Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum remaining as the Acting National Chairman of the main opposition political party.
A statement sighted by Fresh Angle International this morning, Wednesday April 17 on the X handle of PDP, noted: “The decision of the NWC which came at the end of its 584th meeting at the Party's National Secretariat on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 is in commendation of the efforts and commitment of the Acting National Chairman to stabilize and reposition the PDP as the main opposition Party in Nigeria.”
The unsigned statement credited to the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, added: “The Deputy National Chairman (South) Amb. Taofeek Arapaja presided over the motion for Vote of Confidence on the Acting National Chairman which was moved by the National Vice Chairman (South East) Chief Ali Odefa and seconded by the National Treasurer, Hon. Yayari Mohammed.
“The NWC assures of its commitment in ensuring the continued stability, growth and success of our great Party at all time.”
