Tongues are waging among PDP leaders in Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, as indications emerged last night that former President of Itsekiri National Youth Congress, INYC, Barr. Esimaje Awani, is now in pole position to become PDP chairmanship candidate for Warri South Local Government in the forthcoming July 13 Delta State local government election.

Barr. Awani, who was until last night considered an outsider among the favourites to clinch the PDP ticket for the Warri South Local Government plum job, allegedly got the nod of the immediate past Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, even as a prominent PDP leader in Warri North Local Government Area (name withheld) was said to have prevailed on his fellow ex-chairman of the LGA and PDP chieftain (name withheld) to back the choice of Barr. Awani.

Speculations were rife weekend that a former member of Delta State House of Assembly, who represented Warri South Constituency II, was the preferred choice of Governor Sherrif Oborevwori for the position of Warri South Chairmanship seat.

When Fresh Angle International put calls through to some top PDP leaders in Warri South Local Government this morning, to ask if they were aware of the choice of Barr. Awani, they claimed ignorance, just as This Newspaper gathered that the prime choice of Chief Joseph Otumara (leader of Warri South PDP) for the Warri South Chairmanship seat, is Dr. Andrew Megbele.

Meanwhile, feelers filtered in last night that Mr. Sylvester Oromoni from the Ogbe-Ijoh block in Ijaw areas of Warri South-West Local Government Area, may have been selected as the PDP chairmanship candidate of the LGA for the July 13 poll.

The seeming choice of Sylvester Oromoni, did not come without intense political lobbying, because some Gbaramatu-Ijaw leaders and their Itsekiri neighbours, allegedly preferred a former commissioner of Itsekiri extraction, from one of the oil-rich communities in the Benin-river axis of Warri South-West Local Government Area.
