NGO Commends Federal Government's Suit Against 36 States Government
Pastor (Mrs.) Felicia Akande Awani, Founder/ President, PEPIN

A non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting democracy and good governance, today commended the Federal Government for its bold step in instituting a legal action against the 36 States Government over the alleged misconduct in the administration of Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The Federal Government's suit, filed at the Supreme Court, seeks to protect the autonomy of LGAs and ensure that the third tier of government is not subverted.

The suit also seeks to stop state governors from unilaterally dissolving democratically elected local government councils and to ensure that funds meant for LGAs are not diverted to other uses.

"We commend the Federal Government for taking this necessary step to uphold the constitution and ensure that democracy is protected at all levels," said Pastor (Mrs) Felicia Akande Awani, Founder/President of Peculiar Patriots Initiatives of Nigeria (PEPIN).

"The dissolution of democratically elected local government councils by state governors is a violation of the constitution and an affront to democracy.

We stand in solidarity with the Federal Government in this matter and urge the Supreme Court to uphold the constitution and grant the reliefs sought."

PEPIN believes that this suit is a step in the right direction to strengthen our democratic institutions and ensure that power is devolved to the grassroots level.

We urge all stakeholders to support this effort and ensure that the constitution is upheld.

"We call on the state governors to respect the constitution and the democratic system and to desist from actions that undermine the autonomy of local government areas," said Pastor (Mrs) Awani

"This is a crucial moment for our democracy, and we must all stand together to protect it", she added.

NGO is registered with CAC with chapters in the 36 states and FCT of Nigeria.
