In a bid to mitigate the effects of poverty and make life more meaningful in the oil-bearing communities in Delta State, the wives of the Board of DESOPADEC, led by Mrs. Maureen Nani, have provided cash donations, food, medical supplies, and other humanitarian items worth several millons to the elderly in Warri and other riverine communities in Delta.

Mrs. Maureen Nani and Mrs. Flora Ochonoghor accompanied by the wives of the Board of DESOPADEC today visited the Catholic Old People’s Home in Bowen Avenue, Warri South Local Government Area.

Speaking with newsmen, Mrs. Maureen Nani, wife of the Chairman of DESOPADEC, said the gesture was to commemorate the first anniversary of their husbands in office. “We are here on behalf of our spouses to extend our love and care to our senior citizens in these challenging times. We share the pain of our elderly, especially those in the riverine areas; hence, we are here to provide these donations to cushion inflation's effect on the economy."

Mrs. Flora Ochonoghor, the wife of the Managing Director and CEO of DESOPADEC, said this gesture would be extended to other communities in the mandate area. “It is going to be a continuous exercise, and we will continue providing food and medical aid to the less privileged in our oil-bearing communities as well as IDP camps in Delta State,” she said.

Receiving the items on behalf of the home, Reverend Father Emmanuel Ogbe, representing the coordinator, Rev.Father Benedict Ukutegbe, expressed his appreciation to the wives of the Board of DESOPADEC for their kind gesture. He said the items would be distributed among other senior citizens in the riverine communities.

Our Senior Roving Correspondent, reports that he appealed to the board to extend the home's building to accommodate more elderly residents. He prayed for God’s guidance and more appointments for all members of the board of DESOPADEC

Responding, one of the beneficiaries, Pa Tom Oboh, said “We thank God for what you have given us today; it is what we desire. I pray God will continue to bless your work.”
