Delta: Obriki alleges ill-treatment of Ijaws in APC
Hon. Tamarankro Obriki

Hon. Tamarankro Obriki, House of Representatives candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency, Delta State in the last general elections, has expressed concern over what he described as deliberate ill-treatment on Ijaw members of All Progressives Congress APC in Delta State, ahead of 2027 general polls.

He also warned against the plotted weakening of APC as the party was losing its popularity and acceptability in the Niger Delta region.

Obriki, in a statement on Saturday in Warri, Delta State, disclosed that the party is being weakened because most of the persons and individuals appointed by President Tinubu are mostly PDP sympathizers masquerading as APC members.

“ These persons are merely claiming to be APC members because we had victory in the Presidential elections. And so they are never going to be guided by the manifesto of our party or align themselves with the campaign promises made by Mr. President during his campaign. We know some who went ahead to fund opposition candidates in the Presidential and State elections”

According to Obriki, “ In due course we will be tackling these issues with the national leadership of our great party because we have names. Therefore, core party loyalists and members do not see reasons why they will mobilize for the party in the next elections come 2027, as they have seen the reward system of the party disappeared”

He continued, “ We know Mr. President is a party man and he rewards loyalty. We are going to make sure to use available means to communicate to him the sufferings of our party faithfuls in the grassroots as most leaders have sold thier right to speak truth to conscience and power usurpers with heavy purses for lobby and priced out true party loyalists to getting appointments”

“ And most of these people are driven by clannish sentiments and so they see only those from thier enclaves as good people. And those from other clans though we are all same tribe and tongue as bad people. It is pertinent to bring this issues to the front burner as these are critical issues that are eating party faithfuls from our ijaw geography like a putrid fever”

Obriki warned that should the identified abnormalities are not corrected quickly, it might be difficult for APC to perform in 2027 general elections in South South region.

He further stated, “Going forward we have decided to speak out. As they say a closed mouth is a closed destiny. We will volunteer ourselves to run checks and balances and hold them accountable for the offices they hold and the duties they discharge”

“ Giving any slightest of misgivings we will use our pens to petition Mr. President why such characters who divisive in nature should not hold offices in a government we suffered and labour for. In my next address we will be giving names with facts on those we are sure have fall short of expectations to handle offices from our region in the government of our dear party. They may be vile and viscous. But we will never be scared to tackle them with our freedom of speech”
