Extort money from pupils, face straight dismissal – Delta SUBEB Boss, Mariere warns Teachers

The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Hon. Samuel Mariere, has warned Head Teachers and teachers of public primary schools in Delta state against extorting money from pupils, saying anyone caught, will be sacked from the service.

 

Our Principal Correspondent, reports that Hon. Mariere, handed down the warning Thursday July 11, when he led other members of the Board as well as the Executive Secretary of Local Education Authority, LEA of Warri South Local Government, Hon. Augusta Omatsone, on a working visit to the Warri South Council Head of Personnel Management, HPM, Mr. Augustine Akaeze.

Hon. Mariere, explained that the working tour, was sequel to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s directive, aimed at improving Primary school education in the state, in-line with the M.O.R.E Agenda.

 

The Head of Personnel Management of Warri South Local Government Council and Ag. Chairman, Mr. Augustine Akaeze, in his remarks, said the Council has been supportive to primary education in Warri South, adding that attending public school is better and advisable. 

 

Mr. Akaeze, assured members of the Board that the Council was ready to give any support and partner with SUBEB to improve the standard of primary school education.

 

While at the Palace of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, Hon. Mariere emphasized that there's no teacher in Delta State that's owed salary, saying pensions owed teachers will be cleared in the next two months.

He frowned at a situation where some teachers are receiving salaries, while residing outside the country, warning that the salary of such teachers, will be stopped.

 

Hon. Mariere, warned that any community where primary school property is vandalized, will not have government support for 10 years, so as to serve as deterrent to others.

 

The SUBEB Chairman assured that pupil in Nana Primary School, Warri, will be using tabloid for learning from the next academic session, promising that the state government will replicate same in other public primary schools across the three senatorial districts in the state.

 

Prominent Warri Chief, Chief Brown Mene, who spoke on behalf of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, during the stakeholders’ meeting at the Olu Palace, Warri, tasked the SUBEB team on character inculcation and advocated the need to improve academic standard in the public primary schools.  

 

 

Fresh Angle International, can report that at the Palace of The Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Warri, The Orosuen, Owhotemu II, complained about alleged exclusion of people of Okere-Urhobo kingdom in the recent employment of academic and non-academic staff of public primary schools, urging the SUBEB Boss to address the perceived marginalization.

Executive Secretary of Local Education Authority, LEA, Warri South Local Government, Hon. Augusta Omatsone, in her remarks, described the working tour of Hon. Mariere and other members of the Board, as rescue operation for public primary schools in Warri South, saying the primary schools were bedeviled with vandalism.

 

She commended the Police at ‘A’ Division, Warri, for helping LEA recover 10 laptops stolen from Nana Primary School ICT Centre in October 2023. 

 

The Executive Secretary of Local Education Authority, Warri South, expressed displeasure over the approval of public-school fields for social functions, saying it disrupts academic activities and leads to burglary of the school facilities.

 

Hon. Omatsone, appealed to Hon. Mariere, to address the issue preventing the successful takeover of the well-equipped Model State School, along Esisi Road, Warri, which was built by the state government.

 

The Local Education Secretary from Warri South-West, HPMs, Head Teachers from Warri South and Warri South-West Local Government Areas, were present during the historic Town Hall meetings with stakeholders.
