Don't add pittance to our July salary, until we reach agreement with our leaders - Itsekiri, Ijaw, Ilaje CPFSPW tell Chevron

The Itsekiri, Ijaw and Ilaje Community Pipeline Facilities Surveillance Programme Workers, CPFSPW, have asked the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, not to add what they described as pittance of ten thousand naira (N10,000.00) to their July salary, saying they will rather stick with their old salary, pending when they reach agreement with the leadership of Itsekiri, Ijaw and Ilaje Regional Development Committees, RDCs.

The aggrieved workers told Fresh Angle International, Wednesday July 17, that the decision to add N9,126 and N10,600 per day, which amount to N191,646 and N222,600, respectively, for job schedule of 12hours daily and 3weeks per month for their members, which was agreed at a meeting held July 3, is unacceptable to them.

Chairman of Itsekiri, Ijaw and Ilaje CPFSPW, Comrade Raymond Aderojor, who spoke on behalf of the affected workers, stated that it was vexatious to consider adding such meagre amount to their salary, whereas, “Salary of Community workers in Chevron field, have been increased with 65percent, with approval for housing allowance, education allowance, child dedication allowance, medical allowance and daily pay of 35k.”

Recall that the aggrieved workers, had rejected proposal of marginal salary increase and longer working days, earlier put forward at the meeting held in Lagos between the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited and the leadership of Itsekiri, Ijaw and Ilaje Regional Development Committees, RDCs.

While dismissing Chevron Nigeria Limited’s position that they were employees of the RDCs and had nothing to do with the company, they said their employment predates the year 2006, when the GMoU Governance Model of Chevron Nigeria Limited, was birthed.

Comrade Raymond Aderojor, declared that they would not accept the alleged proposal of N9,126 and N10,600 per day, which amount to N191,646 and N222,600, respectively, for job schedule of 12hours daily and 3weeks per month for their members.

Whilst insisting that Itsekiri, Ijaw and Ilaje CPFSPW, demand same salary with community workers in Chevron platform, purportedly receiving N18, 550 and N21, 650 per day, totaling N389, 550 and N454,650, respectively for 21 days, Aderojor, stressed that they should be allowed to work within the existing two weeks job schedule.
