Gov. Ododo vows to make Kogi State epic center of livestock production

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has vowed to make Kogi State the epic center of livestock production in Nigeria.

The Governor made the pledge on Tuesday during the flagging off ceremony of 500 Women and Youth in Poultry value-chain credit support programme under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support, L-PRES project in Kogi State.

Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that he stated that L-PRES, is a giant stride in Nigeria's drive towards food security and economic prosperity.

"It aligns seamlessly with our administration's short, medium, and long term plan to make the epic center of livestock production in Nigeria.

"We are determined to achieve the project development objective here in Kogi state. A pottery boom in our dear state will mean serving 10 other states and the federal capital territory"he added.

He assured the World Bank who is supporting L-PRES project that his administration will continue to inject projects with great political will and zeal to the benefit of the people.

In his speech, the Kogi State project Coordinator, Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support, L-PRES Dr Olufemi Bolarin explained that the world bank project is aimed at improving productivity, commercialization along the livestock value chain and build resilience of targeted livestock farmers and strengthen the Country’s capacity to respond to any eligible crisis or emergency.

His words " One of the critical focus areas of L-PRES is to “incorporate content and approaches to close gender gaps in livestock ownership and value-chain position, such as training in socio-emotional skills to support women’s successful entrepreneurship, or adjustments in training content, delivery modalities, and timing to accommodate gender differences in digital literacy, digital access, and household responsibilities.

" This program isn't simply about poultry. It is about igniting the flames of self-reliance and empowerment within the very heart of our communities. It's about nurturing the potential that resides within each of our beneficiaries with this support as the spark they need to bring to light the greatness imbedded in each one of them.

"This is our expressive pledge to the well-being of the women who are the backbone of our families, and the youths who are brimming with fresh ideas and a thirst for success".

Earlier, the Kogi State Commissioner for agriculture and food security Hon. Timothy Ojomah disclosed that the project has enormous short and long term benefits for the Country.

"The short term benefits is for the families to be sustainable economically. The long term benefits is for the entire State and Nigeria at large. It is a whole value chain process. Kogi State will soon be an epic center of livestock production" he added.
