Director-General  of NYSC Urges Corps Members to Uphold Discipline, Participate Actively in Camp Activities

The Director-General, DG of the National Youth Service Corps,NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has called on corps members nationwide to fully engage in all camp activities, uphold discipline, and avoid any form of misconduct during their service year.          

 

Addressing corps members virtually yesterday, Thursday August 29, he praised the "patriotic zeal" demonstrated by corps members through their acceptance of postings and timely arrival at the camps, assuring them of continued support and commitment from the NYSC leadership.

 

Fresh Angle International 's Agbasoga Vivian, reports that Brig. Gen. Ahmed issued a stern warning against cultism, drug abuse, and the misuse of social media, stating, "Vices such as cultism and drug abuse are strictly prohibited in camp. Avoid using social media to spread fake news or for other negative purposes. Posting camp activities on social media is also prohibited.".                     

 

He emphasized adherence to the NYSC bylaws and warned against participating in any form of unrest, protest, or disruptive behaviour, stating that offenders would face a 90-day extension of service with half pay.                         

 

The NYSC DG, also cautioned against granting interviews without the state coordinator's permission.

 

At the Orientation camp, Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State, the broadcast began at about 8:15 pm, when corps members were called into the multipurpose hall to watch the Director-General's address.                                 

 

The video presentation opened with a historical clip of the NYSC's inception, featuring Head of State General Yakubu Gowon’s declaration of the organization’s establishment.

 

Hamza Safiyanu, Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Youth and Sports in Kano state, reflected on his "fantastic" NYSC experience in Adamawa’s Emirate Council, noting how the programme helped him build communication skills and forge connections across diverse groups. He expressed his ministry's readiness to support any corps member involved in community development projects.

 

The broadcast also featured a segment showcasing the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, with a corps member from Ogun State highlighting their farm's products, including cassava, maize, plantain, and fishery, underscoring the program's importance for self-reliance.

 

The Director-General concluded by urging corps members to familiarize themselves with the NYSC bylaws, remain disciplined, and make the most of their service year.
