NDAGGEJ condemns dumping of toxic waste in Delta
The toxic waste deposited in Koko, Delta State

Niger Delta Advocates for Good Governance and Environmental Justice, NDAGGEJ, led by its President, Comrade Dennis Mene has condemned the dumping of toxic waste in Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State, allegedly by Ebenco Global Link Limited.

The oil waste management company was said to have bought about four acres of land for the dumping of waste in Warri North Local Government Area. The alleged act of the company has affected humans, aquatic lives as well as plants in the area. The group described the action of the company as inhuman to man and call for thorough investigation and persecution of the company.

It was revealed that the environment around the waste dump site is found to be highly toxic and carcinogenic as well as environmentally unfriendly. Further investigation revealed that the crude oil waste and sludge were allegedly ferried into Koko from the facility of an oil company in Escravos were a pit was dug for it.

The people will be gravely contaminated through seepage of the toxic and carcinogenic substances into the aquifer. Consumption and or absorption of toxic and carcinogenic contaminants by plants and lower animals will ultimately lead to bio-accumulation in humans from the food chain which will result in organ failure and death.

We therefore call on all relevant government agencies to come to the aid of Koko residents in Warri North Local government Area to avert the looming danger to human lives.

The President, Comrade Dennis Mene over the weekend also called on the Federal Government to be proactive to the yearnings of the Niger Delta people to avoid youths of the region to go to the extent of taking up arms to drum home their demands .

We use this opportunity to commend the Federal Government in its determination to ensure peace and development of the region through consultative and engagement approach. We also pray for the quick recovery and return of President Muhammadu Buhari.
